Rotary Partners with #3 VFD to Host the Penn Hills Community Carnival & Cookout
In July, the Penn Hills Rotary partnered with the Penn Hills #3 Fire Department to host the Penn Hills Community Carnival & Cookout. This event, hosted at Turner- Friendship Park, was a first for both organizations - and it was a huge success!
The carnival featured many rides and games provided by a carnival vendor. Rotarians and fire department members prepared and cooked fresh cut fries, burgers and hot dogs. They also served Penn Hills’ very own Turner’s Tea and “orange drink.” Proceeds from the concession stand sales will benefit both nonprofit organizations.
Over the course of the four-night carnival, a few thousand people attended the carnival. This gave Rotary members and fire officials the opportunity to interact with the community in ways never done before. Rotary also scheduled other community groups to participate, including nightly performances from the Penn Hills School District cheerleaders.
The planning and team work necessary by Rotary and the fire department to execute this community event included weekly committee meetings for several months, and it was well worth it.
