Spaghetti Dinner Benefits PHVFD Training Center
In April, Penn Hills Rotary hosted its first Spaghetti Dinner. The funds from the event, and a Rotary grant, will go to safety improvements at the Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Department Training Center.
Hosted at a local church, Penn Hills Rotarians served up 350 dinners in about three hours. The club went through 650 homemade meatballs and tens of gallons of homemade sauce, made with love by Grazia Tomasino, a friend of Rotary. In addition, 80 pounds of spaghetti and 80 pounds of salad mix were used. Rolls and sheet cakes were donated by Community Supermarket. Turner Dairy Farm donated Turner’s Tea beverages for the dinner. In addition to Rotarians, the club had assistance from 20 varsity cheerleaders from Penn Hills Senior High School who helped serve food, clean tables, and showed off dance moves for the crowd.
The funding from the event, plus the Rotary grant, will allow the club to donate $10,000 to the fire training center, which is utilized by all six fire companies in Penn Hills, as well as surrounding communities.
